How to Add ‘Free Choice Hay’ to FeedXL

Free Choice Hay & FeedXL: a perfect match

So, your horse gets free choice hay – that’s great! Plenty of forage is a great start to your horse’s diet. But how do you know exactly how much of that free choice hay he eats? While this might seem tricky to estimate, FeedXL makes it easy to understand how much hay your horse eats.

If your horse has access to unlimited hay (from a roundbale, for example) you can easily enter “free choice hay” into FeedXL and the system will automatically estimate your horse’s daily intake for you.

We’ve put together a video to walk you through how to enter ‘free choice hay’ into FeedXL below. If you still have any questions after watching this video, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

First, select “yes” to say that your horse has access to free choice hay, then select the number of hours of access your horse has each day. Click “Create Forage”, find your hay, and add it to the list and select it’s quality. Next, choose what percentage this hay is of your horse’s total free choice forages. When you go on to Create Diet, this will be added to your horse’s diet and you’re ready to carry on with the rest of your feeds and supplements.
