Meet Associate Professor Ben Sykes
Ben graduated from Murdoch University in 1997 and completed an internship at Randwick Equine Centre in 1998.
His post-graduate studies continued with a residency at the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Centre in Virginia from 2000-2003 after which he moved to Finland where he spent 7 years in both academic and private practice.
He moved back to Australia in 2009 and currently works for Massey University as an Associate Professor in Equine Internal Medicine and privately as a consultant to a range of companies.
Ben is boarded with both the European College of Equine Internal Medicine and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and completed his doctorate on factors affecting omeprazole therapy in the horse at the University of Queensland in 2016.
He is the lead author of the ECEIM Consensus Statement on Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome and speaks regularly at international conferences on subjects relating to gastrointestinal health of the horse.
