About equine nutrition
Feeding your horse the correct diet is perhaps the single most important aspect of your horse's management program. Most would agree it is also the most confusing!
If you get horse's diet wrong it will almost certainly have some form of negative affect. Nutritional problems can include:
- hoof problems
- dull coats
- poor reproductive or athletic performance
- muscle wastage
- weight loss
- leg and bone deformities
- lameness
and diseases like:
- laminitis
- developmental orthopaedic diseases
- cushing's disease
- colic
- tying up
- hyperkalaemic periodic paralysis and
- insulin resistance
These can all be caused by or are worsened by poor feeding practices.
The problem for us as horse owners is that with the hundreds of feeds and supplements available and the number of different opinions on how to feed, equine nutrition is confusing!
We are all trying to do the right thing by our horses, and think we know what we are doing, but most of us aren't getting it right. The smallest imbalances can cause huge problems.
To make things worse, not all feeds and supplements that are available live up to the claims made by the manufacturers, being misleading and confusing. Some 'complete' and 'balanced' feeds are far from being complete and balanced, while others like some of the electrolyte supplements just don't contain the concentrations of minerals needed to do the job they are designed and sold to do ... meaning if you use them, you are probably wasting your money and not getting the desired results.
The solution?
In the past we haven't had an easy way to accurately balance our horse's diets with good quality products. Now the FeedXL nutrition software has been developed to give you as owners, breeders and trainers a simple, quick and accurate way to assess and balance your horse's diets. For as little as $15 you can see if what you are feeding is meeting your horse's needs (and if you are wasting money on poor quality feeds and supplements).
By using FeedXL you will:
- Prevent or resolve nutrition related disorders
- Improve your horses reproductive or atheltic performance by removing nutritional limitations
- Stop feeding unesscessary or poor quality feeds and supplements and save money on your feed bill
- Be confident that what you are feeding is meeting your horses needs
The results people have seen in their horses after balancing their diets using the nutrition software have been nothing short of incredible.
